Introducing SIETAR BC Board - Yamila Michelle Franco Pena
Yamila is a Biology student currently completing her last term of her Undergraduate degree at the University of Victoria. She is originally from the Dominican Republic and is driven by educating, connecting with other individuals and being a leader in the community. In the past three years she has been working as a youth STEM instructor at Science Venture. In this position she has taught mostly Science and Computer Science to youth and is currently teaching a girls-only program on Computer Science and Technology. Her mission is to empower youth through education.
She is also part of the UVic Global Community Student Advisory Committee where she has been able to connect with individuals from different cultures, support events organized to promote multiculturalism, and to welcome International Students. Yamila loves photography, and currently holds a second part-time position at UVic where she works with social media, marketing and student engagement.
During her free time she enjoys talking to her family, spending time with peers from the meditation club at UVic exploring different aspects of mindfulness and contemplative practices, watching movies and recently, reading about contemplative practices and social justice.
